29/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - As previously announced (EUROPE 9651), the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted without debate on Tuesday 29 April, the regulation on reform of the common wine market. Two countries voted against the text (Denmark and Malta), while Estonia abstained. Mariann Fischer Boel, the European commissioner for agriculture, affirmed: “Now we can get on with the final preparations for the entry into force of the new system in August. Instead of wasting money getting rid of unwanted surpluses, the reform will allow us to concentrate on taking on our competitors and winning back market share. I hope the member states will make good use of the new tools available”. (L.C.)
