Brussels, 21/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The use of antimicrobial agents in animals, plants and food production is helping to increase the already high number of resistant bacteria and bacteria-borne resistant genes that can be passed on to humans through the food chain. This is the preliminary conclusion of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in a draft opinion prepared on its own initiative by its expert panel on biological risks (BIOHAZ).
