Aid to tobacco producers must be maintained until 2013, says Sergio Berlato's report

Brussels, 17/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 17 April, with the adoption (by 27 votes to 4 and 1 abstention) of the report by Sergio Berlato (UEN, Italy) on raw tobacco, the European Parliament's agriculture committee took a stance in favour of continuing for a further 5 years the measures carried out by the Community Tobacco Fund which, in addition to conversion of the sector in the EU, finances programmes for heightening public awareness of tobacco-related dangers.
