07/04/2008 (Agence Europe) -Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yuschenko said on Monday 7 April that the future “enhanced partnership agreement”, which his country is currently negotiating with the EU, will give Ukraine a status of “associated country” and a “clear prospect” of accession. He also stated that the agreement would be signed in September. The Commission has taken pains to correct this perception: the agreement will make no reference to future accession, as relations will remain in the framework of the neighbourhood policy. As for the date on which the agreement will be signed, September seems “a little too ambitious”. (H.B.)
