04/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The ministerial Troika of the EU, currently chaired by Slovenian Foreign Affairs Minister Dimitrij Rupel, is to hold a meeting in Achgabat (the capital of Turkmenistan) on 9-10 April, to be attended by the foreign affairs ministers of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner, French Foreign Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner (in his capacity as representative of the forthcoming Presidency of the EU) and Special Representative of the EU for Central Asia Pierre Morel will also be part of the delegation of the EU. Bilateral relations with these countries and the implication of the new EU strategy towards Central Asia, which was adopted in June 2007, will feature at the centre of the talks. The strategy covers such important fields of cooperation as trade, energy, human rights, the rule of law, environmental protection in the fight against organised crime. (H.B.)
