Polish Sejm approves Lisbon Treaty

Brussels, 01/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - After lengthy negotiations between the government of Donald Tusk, President Lech Kaczynski and the conservative opposition headed by Jaroslaw Kazcynski, the lower house of the Polish Parliament (“Sejm”) authorised, on Tuesday 1 April, ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The ratification law was approved by 384 votes in favour, 56 against and 12 abstentions. The text must nonetheless be endorsed by the Polish Senate and signed by President Kaczynski on Wednesday. Poland will thus become the 7th member country to have accomplished ratification procedure of the new EU treaty. (H.B.)
