Brussels, 17/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - The president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Max Mosley, presented his vision of the Formula 1 of tomorrow at the International Advanced Mobility Forum (IAMF) at the Geneva motor show (6-16 March) on Tuesday 11 March. This vision is decisively ecological, given the adoption in the new regulation governing Formula 1 racing and a series of provisions in favour of helping energy use less power and pollute less. The new regulation is seeking to freeze research into making cars ever more high performance and sets out a 19,000 revs limit on the system. Mr Moseley declared: “By bringing in rule changes…we can ensure that the outstanding engineers and huge budgets available to Formula 1 will be deployed on energy recovery technologies which are directly relevant to the car industry's efforts to reduce CO2 emissions as well as the average motorist's fuel bill…this will make the sport at once more environmentally friendly, road relevant, and at the cutting edge of future automotive technology”. The FIA president also presents the main outlines of the international “Make Cars Green” campaign organised by the FIA, which aims to reduce the impact of motoring on the environment. This campaign also seeks to underline how politicians, industry and consumers can play a constructive role in the development of sustainable ecological modes of transport in the future. In this connection the FIA launched a public declaration calling on the United Nations to adopt the first global restriction on CO2 emissions from cars. (I.L.)
