Brussels, 22/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Governing board of the European Police College (CEPOL), which met on 18-20 February in Brdo pri Kranju (Slovenia) adopted its work programme and draft budget for 2009. Nevenka Tomoviè, from the Slovenian police academy chairing the meeting explained that in 2009 CEPOL is planning to carry out 84 training events (seminars, courses, conferences) on different areas of policing, particularly crime prevention, cross-border cooperation in fighting organised crime, human trafficking, drug running and terrorism, as well as cyber crime Specific attention will be paid to training assessments and their impact on daily police work, from the introduction of common training programmes for member states, to the development of e-learning. Slovenia's proposal on the organisation of a comprehensive seminar on financial crime is also contained in the 2009 work programme. The seminar is aimed at police officers investigating crime in the member states. CEPOL director, Ulf Goeransson, also pointed out that the agency would begin cooperation with the Russian police academies. The 11th meeting of the CEPOL governing board unanimously adopted the draft budget for €8.8 million, which will be submitted to the Commission for its opinion. The second governing board meeting will be next May in Bled where it will focus on the adoption of the activities report in 2007. Acting on a proposal from Slovenia, CEPOL will be organising a conference on police cooperation with western Balkan countries in March in Bled. (B.C.)
