21/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - Maltese MEP Simon Busuttil (EPP-ED) said, on Wednesday 20 February, that he welcomed the measures proposed by Commissioner Franco Frattini on strengthening measures for monitoring EU external borders. “This package proves that we are still gathering momentum in tackling illegal immigration,” he says in a press release. Busuttil was particularly happy that one of the proposals for Frontex sought to set up specialised branches of the Agency in member states, like Malta. He also supported the proposal for Frontex to acquire its own equipment for border control and surveillance. (B.C.)
