THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/israel

05/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on 4 February, the Slovenian Presidency of the EU 'condemned in the strongest possible terms' the suicide attempt earlier that day at Dimona in the southern Negev Desert in Israel, where the country's nuclear silo is housed. The attack was the first suicide attack in Israel for a year. It killed one Israeli woman and injured a dozen other people. Responsibility was claimed by the military wing of Hamas. 'This act of terror, for which there can be no justification, was aimed at innocent civilians with the goal of undermining the peace process,' explained the Slovenian Presidency, which encouraged 'Israel and the Palestinian Authority to pursue with determination the political process agreed in Annapolis.'
