25/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Denmark, which, in December 2009, will host the 15th EU conference on climate change (COP 15) at which it is hoped that an international agreement on the world's post-2012 regime will be concluded, has given its “overall” support to the climate-energy package presented by the European Commission on 23 January (see EUROPE 9586). The package provides a “good platform” for implementing the ambitious targets set in March 2007, but the Danish government wants to examine the figures proposed before deciding on its position. At first sight, the targets proposed for Denmark seem “very ambitious”, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen told press after his meeting with Commission President José Manuel Barroso, in Brussels on 24 January.
