Brussels, 22/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has presented two new independent studies on its amended proposal on supplementary pensions for mobile workers. The first study - conducted by Hewitt Associates - examines supplementary pension scheme rules in major organisations from nine EU countries and the acquisition, preservation and transfer of supplementary pension rights for workers. The second study by Laura Coppin and Tom Vandenbrande (researchers at the Catholic University of Leuven) analyses Eurobarometer data on the duration of jobs, the time in which a worker expects to stay in a job before changing, as well as the overall duration of careers in 25 EU member states. In the next few months, the Commission will collaborate with the Slovenian presidency in an effort to reach an agreement with the EP and Council on adopting an effective and proportionate directive that reduces obstacles to mobility without placing undue burdens on pension providers.
