Brussels, 10/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Several amendments were added to the European Parliament's plenary session agenda (EUROPE 9574) for Monday 14 January to Thursday 17 January in Strasbourg.
Monday 14 January. Dorette Corbey's report on monitoring and reducing green house gas emissions from fuels (road and internal river ways) was postponed at the request of the Commission, which will discuss the subject at the end of the month. Caroline Lucas' report on the 2006 international agreement on tropical wood also vanishes from the agenda (postponed till April), while the report of Johannes Blokland on exports and imports of hazardous chemical products was added to the Monday evening debate.
Tuesday 15 January. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski's report on setting up partnerships as part of the stabilisation and association process will be voted on Tuesday
Originally planned for the afternoon, the Commission declaration on the progress achieved in the Freedom, Security and Justice Area was postponed till the mini-plenary session on 30-31 January in Brussels. The debate on the report of Roberta Angelilli on a European strategy for children's rights is retained but the report of Manfred Weber on common standards and procedures involving the return of third country nationals residing illegally is postponed till May. The report by Panayiotis Demetriou on a simplified system for controlling people at the Union's external borders (Switzerland and Lichtenstein), as well as that of Michael Cashman on the same subject and on the multi-annual framework of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights (2007-12), will also be discussed.
In the evening, the Commission will make a declaration on the alarming situation involving waste in the Campania region. Fiona Hall's report on the action plan for energy efficiency disappears from the debates because it was not adopted in time at the parliamentary committee, as was the case for Bill Newton Dunn's report on mutual assistance and collaboration between the administrative authorities of member states and the Commission in the application of customs and agricultural regulations, which will be examined in February. An oral question on the status of MEPs elected in Poland was also added.
Wednesday 16 January. The report by Ona Jucknevièienë on population censuses and accommodation will not be put to the vote on Wednesday (it will be voted on in February)
Council and Commission declarations on the situation in Iran will not take place during this session but on 31 January instead, in the presence of the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana. Declarations on the situation in Kenya and Pakistan are, however, planned. The report by Monica Frassoni on controls of Community law application (2005) is postponed till February.
Thursday 17 January. The report by Marie Panayotopoulos-Cassiotou will also be presented in February, whilst the Commission declaration on the results of the forum on internet governance held in Rio in November 2007 is now planned for last Thursday morning.
In the afternoon, debates on human rights will focus on the arrest of the Chinese dissident, Hu Jia, the situation in the Republic of Congo, rape as a war crime and Egypt. (A.B.)
