08/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Slovenian EU Council presidency has called on France to abide by its commitments to reduce its deficits. “The rules of the game should be the same for all countries large and small, and they should apply to France” also, said Andrej Bajuk, Slovenian Finance Minister and President-in-office of the Ecofin Council, speaking before a group of journalists in Ljubljana on 7 January. Last November, finance ministers of the eurozone agreed to keep to their budgetary balance target by 2010. France, however, argues that it is necessary to reform public finance before this and considers that 2012 is a more suitable target date. (H.B.)
