Brussels, 07/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Condemning the recent acts of violence in Kenya (EUROPE 9572), the EU urges political leaders in Kenya to address the concerns about the integrity of the election process raised by EU observers, as well as by Kenyan civil society organisations and by other international observers. A press release published on 4 January by the EU presidency relays this message and calls on all parties to resort to dialogue and to do their utmost to reach a political solution. “The EU stands ready to support the outcome”, states the press release. Welcoming the African Union's readiness to support Kenya in finding a way out of the present crisis, the EU considers that “the Kenyan authorities should take advantage of these good offices”. The EU presidency goes on to add: “The EU also supports other efforts from Africa to the same end. In the meantime, EU member states and the European Commission, individually and collectively, will respond to the humanitarian needs of Kenyans displaced from their homes by the recent acts of violence”.
