07/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Eurojust, the EU judicial cooperation unit, has reached its aim of opening 1,000 new cases in 2007. In 2006, 771 new cases were opened, a rise of 31% on 2005, while in 2002, the year in which it was set up, only 192 cases were dealt with. The 1000th new case, initiated by the French authorities, relates to human trafficking and involves six European Union member states and two countries outside the European Union. (B.C.)
