03/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 28 December, Javier Solana welcomed the Israeli government's decision allowing the completion of the procedure necessary for the accreditation of the European Union Police Mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS). He said the decision would facilitate the implementation of the mandate of the EU mission to support the Palestinian Authority with the reform of the judicial system and the formation of an effective civilian police force. The mission, which has been inactive for some time since it did not have the agreement of the Israeli authorities, is seen by the EU as a central pillar of the EU Action Strategy in support of renewed peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians.
