06/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - According to the latest European Commission report on research, published on 5 November, the total number of animals used in the EU for experimental or scientific purposes in 2005 was 12.1 million (French data related to 2004). The number of animals used in the EU10 was 8.6% of the total number of animals used in the EU25. Rodents and rabbits make up almost 78% of the total number of animals used in the EU.
