Brussels, 06/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 5 November, the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) presented its contribution to the debate on a new family strategy at European level. The document, “Proposal for a strategy of the European Union for the support of couples and marriage”, identifies the challenges facing families in Europe and suggests political initiatives (labour law, tax policy, housing policy, etc) through which European institutions can support families. It concentrates largely on the difficulties that couples and families have to face in their daily lives, and the conditions that are necessary to allow parents to better assume their role (protecting children and young people, integration, combating poverty, etc). This document follows on from the launch of the “European alliance for families” under German presidency of the EU in May 2007, says a COMECE press release.
