Brussels, 18/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 17 October, the European Commission took stock of the proceedings on infringements to telecommunications regulations. Several proceedings were closed. A new case was, however, opened against Bulgaria.
Bulgaria: new proceedings (a formal notice) were launched with regard to the 112 single European emergency number, which is still not available in Bulgaria. The Commission decided, however, to close five non-communication proceedings against Sofia, after notification of the new national legislation. The final non-communication proceedings - against Romania - could also be closed following notification of new national legislation complementing transposition measures for the universal service directive.
Estonia: the Commission has closed the case relating to market analysis, after Estonia notified it of all 18 markets.
Cyprus: the case against Cyprus has also been closed since all of the markets have now been notified, with the exception of the one on international roaming, which is obsolete following the coming into effect of the regulation.
Greece: proceedings brought for lack of location information for calls made to 112 are being closed since this information is now available in Greece.
Portugal: the application filed in the Court of Justice for the same reasons as against Greece has been withdrawn, Portugal having also met its obligations.
United Kingdom: the case relating to directory services is being closed since entries in the comprehensive directory are now possible for mobile subscribers. Information: http: //ec.europa.eu/information_society/policy/ecomm/implementation_enforcement/index_en.htp (I.L.)
