17/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Last week the European Commission adopted a draft directive to codify the structure and rates of excise applicable to manufactured tobacco. This directive will abrogate directives 92/79/EEC, 92/80/EEC and 95/59/EEC. At the end of March the Commission launched an on-line consultation regarding the draft legislative amendment for the
end of 2007 to make rules on excise rates on tobacco products more transparent and simpler (EUROPE 9399). (M.B.)
