Brussels, 21/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - There is still much to do when it comes to cohesion policy. Europe and its regions are faced with a constantly evolving technological environment and demographic pressure. EU cohesion policy must be able to face these challenges, says Philippe de Buck, BusinessEurope Secretary General, in a letter addressed to European Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner. The secretary general notes several key areas of action on which EU cohesion policy should focus in future in order to: (1) foster innovation to boost productivity growth; (2) support lifelong learning, active ageing and geographical mobility in order to tackle demographic ageing; (3) anticipate structural changes and support adaptability of the labour force; (4) ensure that business representatives are properly consulted in the programming process; and (5) improve coordination with other Community resources and policies such as state aid, and enhance the capacity of administrators to engage in public-private partnerships. This letter is BusinessEurope's response to the consultation launched in May by the Commission (see EUROPE 9435). For details see: http://www.businesseurope.eu (gb)
