13/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - The number of persons employed in the eurozone progressed 0.5% (776,000 persons) during the second quarter 2007. According to provisional Eurostat estimates, the number of persons with a job in the EU27 also increased 0.5% (1,010,000 persons). During the first quarter 2007, growth rates were +0.6% in the eurozone and +0.4% in EU27. Compared to the same period of the previous year, employment increased by 1.7% in the eurozone during the second quarter 2007, and by 1.5% in the EU27, after +1.7% and +1.5% respectively during the first quarter 2007. Eurostat considers that, during the second quarter 2007, 222.1 million men and women have employment in the EU27, including 142.9 million in the eurozone. (ab)
