Brussels, 12/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 12 September, the European Commission authorised Ireland to pay national aid worth more than €900 million over the period 2007-2013 to encourage afforestation. Ireland has the second lowest rate of forest cover in the European Union, at just 10% of the country's total land area. The primary objective is to bring the level up to 17% of land area.
