EU reaffirms its opposition to the death penalty as Texas executes 400th prisoner since 1976

Brussels, 24/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 22 August, the European Union said it was 'unreservedly opposed to the use of the capital punishment under all circumstances'. In a statement issued on behalf of the EU, the Portuguese Presidency strongly urged 'Governor Rick Perry to exercise all powers vested in his office to halt all upcoming executions and to consider the introduction of a moratorium in the State of Texas' in the United States.
