THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/chad

02/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Council secretariat general and European Union military staff are continuing with work on the Crisis Management Concept ahead of the military operation which the Union is to undertake in Chad in October. In principle, this document, which is the first in the planning process, will be adopted at the JHA Council of 17 September, at the same time as the joint action, subject to the adoption of the concomitant UN resolution authorising the deployment. As it stands, the Crisis Management Concept allows for up to 4,000 troops to be deployed. Apart from France, which could take on the role of framework nation for this operation and provide a considerable number of personnel and the operations headquarters, several member states - notably Spain, Poland, Italy and Sweden - have indicated their willingness to contribute to the future EU operation.
