Brussels, 06/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, during the official visit to Brussels of Brazilian President Lula da Silva and following the first EU-Brazil summit in Lisbon on Wednesday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs signed a mission statement for the EU-Brazil energy dialogue on Thursday. The European Commission says the dialogue will provide a solid basis for reinforcing energy cooperation between the EU and Brazil (a major player on the global energy stage both in terms of energy consumption and energy generation) in areas of common interest like developing renewable energies (particularly biofuels), low carbon energy technology and improving energy efficiency. The first talks will be held in the autumn of this year. (eh)
