New Delhi makes gesture on import of wines and spirits

Brussels, 06/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Indian finance minister announced a reduction in customs duties on imports of wines and spirits, in the hope of appeasing the European Union and the United States which, deeming the Indian import regime to be unfair, both lodged a complaint with the WTO (see EUROPE 9394 and 9414). The Indian government decided to remove local (so-called additional) taxes, levied in some Indian states, which were in addition to national customs duties....
