Brussels, 12/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - On the initiative of the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) a 25 metre high turbine will be erected on Thursday afternoon at the Schuman roundabout in Brussels (between the Council of the Union and the European Commission) as part of the first European Wind Energy Day event. EWEA action aims at raising awareness among decision-makers and the public about the potential of wind power. European Wind Energy Day takes place on Friday and will be celebrated in 21 European countries in more than 60 events that bring together associations, producers and other actors from the wind energy sector. The event will officially be launched on Friday by the Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs and EWEA President Christian Kjaer. Others attending the launch include ministers for energy and/or the environment from the three Belgian regions, Evelyne Huytenbroeck (Brussels-Capital), Kris Peeters (Flemish region) and André Antoine (Walloon region).
