21/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 10-11 May 2007 in Potsdam, Germany, Mr Luis Miguel Pariza Castaños, Spanish trade unionist and adviser at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), participated in the informal meeting of EU ministers for integration (EUROPE 9421/9422), where he called for better governance of the process which should involve civil society organisations and local authorities from the earliest stages of policy-making. In 2002 the EESC launched a debate at a European level making integration policies a key element of common policies on immigration and asylum. On 13 September 2006 the EESC adopted Mr Pariza Castaños' opinion on “Immigration in the EU and integration policies: collaboration between regional and local governments and civil societies”. (gb)
