Brussels, 07/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - EU ministers for integration will be meeting for an informal meeting in Potsdam on 10-11 May 2007 to discuss future possibilities for European cooperation with the EU on integration policy and the promotion of intercultural dialogue. The federal minister of the interior, Wolfgang Schäuble, who initiated the meeting, declared: “Although there are still divergences among EU member states about the term integration, the stakes represented by integration are, however, the same for our societies. The success of integration policy influences future immigration(…)The other theme of the meeting: intercultural dialogue. The Muslim population, increasing in number in many member states, sees this argument as being particularly important for stability and internal security”. Even if integration work is above all a national task, the subject is gaining importance in the realm of European migration policy, underlines the German presidency press release. The commissioner in charge of immigration, Franco Frattini, will also be at this meeting and is expected to suggest several areas that require reflection in this area which he considers as a “key priority”.
