03/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - Following Estonia's call for the postponement of the EU-Russia summit on 18 May to be “seriously” considered, because of tensions generated by the moving of a monument in Tallinn (see EUROPE 9418), the German presidency of the EU has indicated that there were no plans for such a “serious” measure. Finland, which neighbours Russia, has also called for dialogue to continue with Moscow. “Continuing the dialogue gives more chance of a positive solution than the postponement of the summit,” said Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva on a visit to Tallinn on Wednesday. The leader of the ALDE group in the European Parliament, Graham Watson, disagreed: “In the current circumstances, the wisest course of action would be to postpone the summit,” he said. (hb)
