Brussels, 02/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to delay until Monday 7 May the adoption of Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel's proposal, aiming to encourage business and professionals to reduce sugar production. The Commission was due to adopt this proposal on Wednesday 2 May, but it would appear that a Commissioner, whose nationality is French, asked for the adoption of the text to be suspended until 7 May because of claimed import problems into the EU of sugar from certain third countries. The issue of sugar supply from third countries does not feature in the proposal, which is unlikely to contain any amendments to the original draft (see EUROPE 9414 for detailed information on the proposal).
