Brussels, 02/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - In order to develop a new legislative proposal by the end of the year aimed at delivering the binding minimum target of 10% biofuels in total petrol and oil consumption intended for transport in the Union as adopted by the European Council in March this year (EUROPE 9383), the Commission launched public consultation on Monday, open until 4 June, on biofuels. It thus hopes to learn the points of view of the different parties (public authorities, enterprises, NGOs) on the four following questions: - how to conceive a long-term biofuel viability system; - how to oversee the global incidence of biofuels on the use of land; - how to encourage the use of second generation biofuels; - and what the other necessary measures to achieve a 10% share of biofuels are. Consultation is accessible at: http: //ec.europa.eu/energy/res/consultation/biofuels_en.htm. (eh)
