Brussels, 27/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - During Thursday's bilateral meeting in Geneva, Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and Russian Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko agreed to restructure the EU-Russia energy dialogue thematic groups, putting three new joint working groups in place. The new groups will consider (1) energy strategies, forecasts and scenarios, (2) market developments, and (3) energy efficiency.
Messrs Piebalgs and Khristenko also exchanged views on a possible setting up of an early warning mechanism for energy crises in order to prevent disruptions to energy supply. The meeting also covered issues of common interest, such as the development of infrastructure projects; bilateral cooperation in energy efficiency; and preparation of the EU-Russia Summit in Samara on 18 May.
