Brussels, 27/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - Danish Social Affairs Minister Eva Kjer Hansen was handed 14 suggestions on tackling human trafficking which she described as 'excellent and concrete' by 40 European experts whom she had invited to a meeting in Copenhagen on 18-20 April, after a 'Stop Trafficking Camp 07 - Boosting the Social Dimension' event. Hansen will submit the proposals to her fellow EU social affairs and employment ministers at a Council meeting in Brussels on 30-31 May (see EUROPE 9410).
The proposals can be accessed at http://www.social.dk. They include: 1) Hotline 777 to advise and counsel people on job offers in other countries, for example; 2) a joint European NGO network to receive trafficked people being returned to their home country; 3) documentation at EU level on experience, activities and developments in this area; and 4) a young-to-young network offering young people alternatives to the life as a victim of trafficking.
'This Camp has proved an inspiring process, which has gathered together people of very differing backgrounds to focus on a common goal. It has confirmed me in my belief that we need to strengthen social activities targetted at combatting human trafficking,' said Kjer Hansen. (gb)
