Brussels, 16/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - In the run-up to the European Council on 8 - 9 March, the Commission will be adopting a communication on Wednesday on the “internal market for citizens”, the Commission spokesman announced on Friday 16 February. He went on to say the interim report will mark the beginning of the European institution's reflection on the review of the acquis communautaire and on the future prospects of its policy in this field. Reflection will result in a full report by the autumn.
In May 2006, the Commission had proposed a dual approach when it comes to the future of the EU: - that of implementing a “positive agenda” to give citizens a “Europe of results”, and that of continuing in parallel with the debate on overcoming the institutional impasse (see EUROPE 9189 and 9269). It had announced fundamental revision of EU policy on the internal market. (mb)
