Brussels, 19/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - In November 2006, production in the construction sector grew by 1.2% in the eurozone, and by 0.7% in the EU25, compared with the previous month. In October 2006, production fell by 0.3% in the eurozone, and rose by 0.1% in the EU25. Compared to November 2005, output increased by 5.5% in both the eurozone and the EU25, after rises of 4.8% and 5.2% respectively in October 2006. This is the first time that Eurostat has published the construction index on a monthly basis. Between October and November, construction output rose in six Member States and fell in four. The most significant increases were recorded in Belgium (9.7%), Germany (6.2%) and Slovakia (3.3%). The largest decreases were in Poland (3.1%), Slovenia (2.7%) and Portugal (1.1%). The building sector increased by 1.3% in the eurozone and by 0.9% in the EU25, after respective falls of 0.5% and 0.1% in October 2006. In annual terms, construction output rose in nine Member States and fell only in Portugal (6.5%). The largest increases were recorded in Slovenia (23.2%), Poland (21.6%) and Slovakia (12.9%). The building sector rose by 6.2% in the eurozone and by 6.1% in the EU25, following rises of 4.5% and 4.8% respectively in October 2006. Civil engineering grew by 1.7% in the euro area, but fell by 2.5% in the EU25, after increases of 4.0% and 0.4% respectively in the previous month. (ab)
