Competition/air transport (C 10)
Initiation of proceedings (detailed investigation) on the proposed buyout by the Irish airline Ryanair of AER Lingus (Case COMP/M.4439 - Ryanair/AER Lingus). With the announcement by the European Commission of this detailed investigation on 20 December 2006, Ryanair decided that its buyout offer was now immediately “null and void” (EUROPE 9333). Although the Commission was expected to give its authorisation after this investigation, Ryanair indicated in December that it would like to make Aer Lingus a new offer. The Commission has until 11 May 2007 to decide on whether to authorise this acquisition.
