10/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gül chaired a meeting of some one hundred representatives of the Turkish government to draw up a roadmap for reforms to be carried out by Turkey by 2013 in preparation for European Union accession. He underlined to press that his government was determined to pursue its aim of accession despite the recent partial suspension of these negotiations (see EUROPE 9326). “The EU decision has not shaken our resolve to carry out reform,” he is quoted by AFP as saying. “Integration processes always have their ups and downs. The main thing is to keep moving forward with reforms during the downs. For the moment the climate is negative, but we know that this is only transitory,” he added. The roadmap is due to be presented at the end of the month or in January. (hb)
