15/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 14 December, the EP agreed to Bolivia being added to the list of countries whose citizens are required to have a visa to enter the EU (thereby amending a 2001 regulation). The new regulation will apply to short-stay visas based on the principle of solidarity and dealing with illegal immigration. Adopting a report by Ioannis Varvitsiotis (EPP-ED, Greece), the MEPs also agreed to drop visa requirements for citizens from the following countries wishing to visit the EU: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Mauritius, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Seychelles. The Council has already issued its opinion and is expected to formally adopt the new legislation in January. (bc)
