15/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 12 December, the European Parliament adopted a report by Mihael Brejc (EPP-ED, Slovenia) on the draft Council framework decision regarding cooperation among recovery agencies in the Member States for the location and identification of stolen goods and other items involving crime or fraud (consultation procedure). The MEPs agreed on the need for the text presented by Austria, Belgium and Finland. The Council framework decision aims to ensure that each Member State sets up or designates a national stolen goods recovery agency and establishes effective coordination among such agencies in the Member States without interfering with the status and responsibilities of the various agencies in their home country. MEPs queried the need for national contact points in Member States which already have units for tracking down and identifying stolen goods or other fraudulently obtained goods and assets. (bc)
