30/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Mario Borghezio MEP (Lega Nord) complained about how Italian officials were treated during a recent reshuffle at the European Commission. He said that an urgent question to the Commission and Council ought to be addressed over the “inadmissible discrimination humiliating one of the founding countries” (EUROPE 9316 on the subject of the Italian minister for Community affairs Emma Bonino). The MEP said that these conditions suggested “a return to the old rule consisting in attributing each Member State with a quota of officials proportional to the demographic weight” and, “their participation in the Community budget, given that with their very dirty taxes, our fellow citizens are largely contributing to the funding of the European circus”.
