Dimitrios Dimitriadis to be elected President of European Economic and Social Committee next week - Agenda for meeting

Brussels, 23/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold its 13th quadrennial inaugural plenary session in Brussels on 24-26 October. At this session, Greek Dimitrios Dimitriadis (employers' group) will be elected President of the next two years. The plenary session will also elect the Bureau, the two Vice-Presidents and the Presidents of the EESC's specialised units. On Thursday 26 October, the plenary will debate and adopt opinions on issues as varied as: - public mobile telephone networks (roaming) - public procurement in the EU; - the Commission's Green Paper on the breach of antitrust rules; - intellectual property and rental rights; - duration of protection of copyright; - European action plan on animal welfare; - spending in the veterinary field; - protection of calves; - the Commission's Green Paper on the European initiative on transparency; - coordination of social security systems; - the new strategic framework on multilingualism; - statutes of the Galileo joint programme; - GNSS supervisory authority; - future enlargement of the euro zone; - the action programme for Customs; - misleading advertising; - labelling for spirit drinks; - non-native species in aquaculture; - genetically modified micro-organisms; - the eradication and monitoring of certain animal diseases; the forestry action plan.
