2nd 'European Researchers' Night'

Brussels, 15/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - Given the huge success last year of the European Researchers' Night, the European Commission has decided to organise it again, on 22 September 2006. Some 21 European countries will be organising various events to get the general public interested in the world of science. More than 100 cities will be taking part in this European Researchers' Night by organising events and games. Citizens will be invited, for example, to spend the night with oceanographers in Athens, discover the world of stem cells in Milan, dive into the heart of the human brain in Barcelona, and get to know the world's most sophisticated anthropomorphic robot, Asimo, in Brussels. They will also be able to attend theatrical performances about the life of scientists or dance to music composed by scientific researchers. Antonia Mochan, a spokesperson for Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik, said people would be able to interact with researchers doing work that concerns us all. Researchers have to get out of the labs, she said, adding that they can be amusing people. (Full programme: http: //ec.europa.eu/research/researchersineurope/index_en.htm)
