23/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Wine Management Committee approved, on 23 June, the proposals by Spain and Greece to open crisis distillation of wine to sponge up part of the wine surplus. The Community budget devoted to this management measure that may begin from 18 July amounts to €22 million, after €123 million spent for France and Italy (EUROPE 9206). Spain is authorised to distil 300,000 hectolitres (hl) of quality wine. In Greece, crisis distillation is open for 370,000 hl of table wine and 130,000 hl of quality wine. The Community price is €1.914 per hl (table wine) and €3.00 (quality wine).
