22/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 21 June, Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner visited Sofia, where she met Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev, Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski, European Affairs Minister Meglena Kuneva and other representatives of the Bulgarian government, says a press release. Ms Hübner noted the significant progress made by Bulgaria towards applying the acquis communautaire, but she also indicated that many further reforms have to be undertaken in certain key policy areas to be able to join the EU in 2007. The Commissioner also took part in the signing ceremony of two Solidarity Fund agreements granting €20.35 million of EU aid to the regions of Bulgaria devastated by the flooding of 2005.
