Brussels, 17/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, Parliament adopted the report by Karin Scheele (PES, Austria) on harmonising national rules on the addition of vitamins and minerals to foodstuffs in order to ensure a high level of consumer protection. The regulation, as voted by the EP after agreement with the Council, set out a list of more than one hundred formulae for vitamins and minerals that can be added to foods, and bans their addition to unprocessed fresh foods such as such as fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, as well drinks and products with 1.2% alcohol by volume.
