12/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of the extraordinary meeting of the CoR Bureau in Innsbruck on 12 May, the President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), Michel Delebarre, restated the positions expressed by the Committee on promoting decentralisation in the context of the United Nations Habitat programme and on strengthening of local authorities and decentralised cooperation. Mr Delebarre called on the Austrian Presidency to inform EU Member States of the current reflection being carried out by the Committee on the subject of guidelines for decentralisation to be presented at the end of the year with a view to adopting the World Charter of Local Self-Government, a press release states. This reflection comes within the context of the UN's Millennium Development Goals.
