Lowri Evans deputy Director-General in charge of State aid

Brussels, 10/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission appointed Lowri Evans to the position of deputy Director-General within Directorate General Competition. She will be responsible for monitoring State aid. Ms Evans, 48, who is from the United Kingdom, has been in the position of deputy Director-General in charge of mergers since December 2005. Ms Evans began working for the Commission in 1983, and occupied several positions within Directorate General Employment, before going on to join Directorate General Competition, originally as a head of unit, and then as a director. She holds a degree in commercial studies and the economy, accountancy and law and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. She will take up their duties in a few weeks' time, according to a Commission press release.
